Moonlight and Magnolias is based on actual events in 1939 when David O. Selznick shuts down filming of Gone with the Wind. The director is fired. The script is unworkable and the stars are outraged. Confusion reigns. Desperate, Selznick locks the office doors, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, he, director Victor Fleming and screenwriter Ben Heckt labor for five days on a screenplay for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.
