I am a professional freelance Latin percussionist, (bongos, timbales, congas, cajon, drums, all miscellaneous Latin Percussion instruments), old timer, with more than 25 years of musical experience looking to form a Cuban Jazz/ Afro-Cuban/ Latin Jazz musical group, (preferably 4-6 musicians maximum), with minimum to no rehearsals, meaning that we meet to feel each other a couple of times, and then just go play professionally and competitively.
You must be professional with ample knowledge and repertoire of above mentioned genres and its respective “tumbaos” with both 2-3 Rumba claves and 3-2 Son claves for integrated Songo, Timba, Mozambique, Pilon, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, and other multiple related authentic Cuban/Afro-Cuban rhythms. Once we get together, you must be able to know the basics, such as metrics, and mechanics of these syncopated rhythms, and thus play the above genres without much effort, as well as being able to improvise as needed.
Rehearsals, if and when needed would be in Fort Lauderdale, or we can alternate if any of you propose another FREE place to rehearse. I am Christian, and therefore I would be open to brainstorm about Christian music in a form of Latin Jazz, something to think about also.
I am looking for experienced knowledgeable mature musicians, who are serious, reliable, responsible, punctual, cooperative, ethical, disciplined, respectful, clean, non-smoker, with integrity, positive attitude, good presence, own equipment and own transportation. No drugs, nor alcohol.
If you are serious about this project, I am in need of a piano player, (not keyboards), a drummer, (with the Cuban set up of drums/timbales, and able to play the right claves), a bass player, a sax/flute player, and perhaps a singer who must be able to play guiro, maracas and/or claves while he/she is singing.
