Synopsis of Plot: Set in a drought-ridden rural town in the West (1930-1949), the play tells the story of a pivotal hot, summer day in the life of spinster-ish Lizzie Curry. Lizzie keeps house for her father and two brothers, who are more anxious about her “old maid” status than about their dying cattle. The family males have tried strategies to settle Lizzie into marriage, but without success. Suddenly, from nowhere, appears a charismatic man, with a mellifluous tongue and romantic, mystical ideas equivalent to his nameStarbuck. He is a Rainmaker, and more, and promises rain for $100. Although a ridiculous idea to the stalwart Curries, his belief in his own powers are so refreshing and ingratiating that he has soon worked his magic on the family as he hopes he will do on the weather. Basic themes of the play are hope, and belief in the inner self rather than the self as others see us (reality vs. illusion). — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: Live Event
