AUDITIONS Women Behind Bars – 1355743

05-09-13 – Honolulu, HI – Aloha Performing Arts Company is looking for a few good women…and one man, for its final production of the season, Tom Eyen’s dark comedy “Women Behind Bars.” The play was written in 1975 as a satire of 50′s era female prison exploitation films. Divine, the star of many John Waters movies, made her Off Broadway debut in the show in 1976. The performances will be in July, and auditions will be held Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the APAC Loft, in Kainaliu across the street from the Aloha Theatre, on the second floor of the building housing The King’s Daughters Thrift Store. Access is via the small lane at the south end of the building, beside Kiernan Music Store. The entry to the Loft is above and behind the building. Parking space is scarce, so the street or the public lot just north of the building is recommended.

Those auditioning should arrive promptly, fill out paperwork and get photographed, and be prepared to stay two hours. Attendance on both nights not necessary, but will be permitted. A possible invitational callback audition may be held on Friday May 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Aloha Theatre. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, as well as sharing a short life memory involving punishment. Rehearsals will begin June 3, and will generally be held Monday through Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The performance run is July 12 through 27. Cast members must commit to the entire rehearsal and performance schedule, with a minimum of conflicts.

Any of the female roles could conceivably be played by a man in drag. Because of content and themes, the show is recommended for adults. Those under 18 may audition only with a signed parent or guardian consent form. — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: Live Event

04-24-13 – Honolulu, HI – Guest director Sue Boyum will be holding auditions for “Aladdin Jr” on Saturday, and Sunday. In addition to Ms. Boyum, other production team members include Lee Vinson as choreographer, Christy Aragon as producer, Robin O’Hara as assistant director, and Tia Amafala as production assistant.

All roles are open and include Aladdin, Genie, Iago, Jafar, Jasmine, Magic Carpet, Razoul, Sultan, Narrators and Ensemble. Those who audition must be age 18 or under and have parent or guardian consent. Consent forms will be available at auditions. Prospective cast members will be expected to share a short piece of dialogue which they will receive at auditions, learn and perform a short dance in small groups and come prepared to sing either “A Friend Like Me” or “A Whole New World” in small groups and alone. Scripts may be checked out at the APAC office by leaving a $10 deposit.

The production runs June 21-30. A special read-through rehearsal will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 10:00 am and regular rehearsals begin Monday, May 20. Please prepare an up-tempo or balled that shows off your vocal range from the traditional Broadway repertoire i.e. Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, Porter, Gershwin, etc. No Phantom, Les Miz, Miss Saigon, Spring Awakening, Rent, Altar Boyz. No a capella, recorded music, and transpositions will be allowed. Please bring appropriate clothes and shoes (character and tap shoes) as you may be asked to dance.

REQUIREMENTS
SING – Please prepare an uptempo song or ballad from the traditional Broadway Repertoire (i.e. Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, etc.). No contemporary Broadway repertoire: i.e. Les Miserables, Wicked, Miss Saigon, Rent, Spring Awakening, Phantom, etc. Bring sheet music in your own key. No transpositions on site, no a capella, karaoke, or tapes will be allowed. An accompanist will be provided.

DANCE – Please bring appopriate dance wear (clothes/shoes) as you may be asked to dance.

READ – Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Perusal scripts available at the Diamond Head Theatre Box Office, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Material is copywritten and must be read on -site.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals begin immediately. Rehearsal schedule determined by director.

PERFORMANCES
