I used to play music with some dudes in my town, but they’ve since gone off to do their own bland-ish “indie pop” thing.
there doesn’t seem to be any musicians in the area that like the music I like or play in the styles I like to play, have the same “ear” if you get what I mean…
anyway, this is TOTALLY INFORMAL, I have written a handful of songs and I would really like to have a band to maybe help flesh some of them out
maybe toss around some new ideas
Perhaps things could get a little more permanent, who knows?
I chose write under the moniker Black Elk and have a bandcamp page but it’s horribly vacant as of now

-I think I’ve been pernamently influenced a lot by the early 2000s “post-punk revival” (Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Interpol, etc….I grew up with that stuff haha)

I recently returned to Cambridge after years living elsewhere, and am looking to start a band here. I’m looking for a rhythm section to start.

I have a pretty powerful voice but have mainly been playing solo. I’ve done some interesting things with music: done well in large songwriting competitions in Brooklyn, licensed songs to MTV, yadda yadda. . . But kinda got away from music a couple of years ago and am looking to get back in it.
The plan is to start playing gigs as soon as possible. I’m playing a solo show 8pm @ Bloc 11 in Union Sq. 8/31 should you be interested in hearing my performance. But I want to move past the coffeshop scene and start playing some clubs.
I’m not looking to start a band that’s only my songs, I want a band where new music is being written and we can do lots of styles. But I would want a band that is humble enough to play a simple song simply, and proud enough to play a complex song dynamically (not that I have very complex songs). I’m not a big “jammer” these days as far as endless improvisation. I’m more about song-structure and form.
I’m 34 fyi should that make me tragically un-hip.
