My influences are manifold. Rock takes the throne: my favorite band is Rush; I’m very fond of Dire Straits, and ZZ Top, and old G ‘N’ R (and most of the rockers from the 80s); Tool, NIN, Metallica, Iron Maiden. Experimenters like Pink Floyd (naturally). . .U2, NIN, The Faint, Muse, and so on. But I’m also into softer, folky sounds: Gordon Lightfoot, Tori Amos, Sting, and the like, as well as oddballs like Oingo Boingo and David Bowie. 05-09-11 – Portland, OR>Seattle, WA – Seeking keyboard player for acoustic guitar group.

Our group is called Acoustic Synergy, and we all play acoustic/electric guitars: 6-string, 12-string, and 4-string bass.We have our own complete PA system consisting of two Bose L1 systems along with all the miscellaneous equipment, i.e. mics, stands, cables, etc., and would be willing to connect your keyboard to our system.

We are seeking a female or male keyboard player to become the 4th member of our group. We are three men who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, but you may be from a younger or older generation. Ideally we would like to add a female voice to our sound but that is not an absolute requirement.

The ideal candidate would have the following abilities and musical interests:
1. Intermediate or higher level of piano/keyboard skills.
2. Enjoy playing folk and ballad music from the 60’s and 70’s: (John Denver, Cat Stevens, Beatles, America, Mama’s and Papa’s, Carol King, Gordon Lightfoot, and many others!)
3. Willingness to practice two hours, once or twice per week, ideally between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Typically, we practice at our homes in S.E. Portland, S.W. Beaverton, and N.E. Vancouver.
4. Ability to sing harmony.
5. Interested in performing once per month in coffee shops, bookstores wine bars, dinner houses, senior centers, etc.). Keep in mind, we are not trying to become wealthy but to just enjoy sharing our music with others! (Some of the gigs would be for tips only; some are fully paid.)

04-15-11 – Birmingham, AL>Atlanta, GA – Trio consisting of acoustic guitar (rhythm and lead) and 5 string banjo in need of a solid bassist / vocalist to round out the sound we’ve got going. We’ve got a pretty solid and mellow sound going, and we cover everything from bluegrass to folk / Americana, as well as original music, and remain open to anything that’s just good music. We’re currently smoothing out our take on about 50 tunes to start, from Bill Monroe to Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, traditional and new bluegrass, all types of cool instrumentals and fiddle tunes, several original songs, etc.

Ideally would prefer someone comfortable with upright and electric bass; bowed upright would be highly desirable.

Our intention is to cut some demo tracks and gig locally in the upstate SC / western NC areas (coffee shops, acoustic cafes and bars, possibly some festivals, etc) and see where it can go from there.
