09-26-11 – Los Angeles, CA>San Diego, CA – We’re in the midst of putting the final touches on a brand new record (FAST LOVE CALIFORNIA) and are desperately in need of a great, professional bassist for touring / live performance in anticipation of/following the album’s release. We rehearse in a professional space in Silverlake/Echo Park.
Recognizing how rare/valuable a pro drummer is to this act, I’m going to eschew humility for a moment and say that this is the type of pro-level opportunity that doesn’t come by often. The forthcoming album’s production-standard is top-notch and we’re in the midst of putting together an amazing representational team (legal, PR, etc…) to best ensure a successful release. Rehearsals take place in a professional practice-space, so don’t worry about constantly hauling a kit around (excluding gigs of course). This ain’t no garage band – it’s an opportunity for a career – amateurs and weekend warriors need not apply.
Rather than rattling off the obligatory “influences” list common to these posts; for an idea of our sound, it’s probably best to check out our website for more information on the Essex Lights as well as some Mp3s from the debut EP, “Action Park & the Indian Summer”.
The URL is:
Please note, however, it must be stressed that while we’re proud of the work on the first record, this LP is a pretty substantial step away from the funk/soul sound in a decidedly more “rock and roll” direction – big drums, big guitars, lots of fun… Think early Springsteen, Van Halen, etc…
If this all sounds like a good fit for you, please contact us for a private link to hear some of the new material and we can go from there…
Bio from the first record posted below :
NOTE THIS BIO WAS WRITTEN PRIOR TO GRADY (LEAD GUITAR) AND BEN (DRUMS) JOINING THE BAND – THE ESSEX LIGHTS IS NO LONGER A “SOLO ACT”, EXCLUDING THE BASSIST, OUR LINEUP IS COMPLETE.
BIO
The Essex Lights aren’t a band, but rather a grammatical error. This is because, The Essex Lights’ debut album “Action Park and the Indian Summer” wasn’t the effort of a “band” at all, but rather the cumulative effort of the bedroom studio musical experimentation of Los Angeles’ multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Michael C. Brawer. Having honed his musical chops throughout his teenage years in various jazz ensembles while simultaneously being regularly electrocuted singing into shoddy microphones at North Jersey punk-rock shows, Brawer traded rock-and-roll to study Diplomatic History at the University of Pennsylvania. Finding the career prospects of guitar-playing Ivy League historians not being what they once were, Brawer headed West to Los Angeles to find work in the movie business.
And so, Hollywood (the city) became a new home, while Hollywood (the industry) became a new source for mounting psychiatric bills and a noteworthy cardiac episode. Somewhere along the line, Brawer wandered into a guitar shop on Sunset Boulevard, and on an impulse, spent his entire paycheck on a brand-new Olympic White Stratocaster that he named Ella Mae. From that moment, Brawer played his guitar night after night and began composing music again, and in playing those songs he found himself. Those songs became the material on “Action Park & the Indian Summer,” and Michael C. Brawer became The Essex Lights.
Brawer currently resides in his beloved home in Hollywood, California with his eccentric mutt named Lucky. — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: 1
