12-30-11 – San Francisco, CA>Reno, NV – Hi,

I’m Thea, a singer (alto) and songwriter looking to join a band or form one, in which case I’m looking for a drummer.

This would probably include my husband Eric, who’s a really good keyboardist, singer and songwriter.

We like music that’s a little out of the mainstream, with intelligent lyrics, more than 3 chords (usually), & something unexpected like an odd instrument or time signature or arrangement.

My taste ranges widely – Peter Gabriel, REM, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Tori Amos, King Crimson, Paul Simon (the later, more complex stuff), Joni Mitchell (ditto), Grateful Dead, Harry Nilsson, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Sam Phillips (I especially recommend Martinis & Bikinis, and It’s Only a Flesh Wound Lambchop). I also love some really old-school R&B once in a while (Aretha, Stevie Wonder, etc.). Eric’s tastes are somewhat like mine, but more prog. Some of his favorites are Kevin Gilbert, Todd Rundgren and Yes.

We love genre-bending music! That’s genre, not gender — “Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” as Jerry Seinfeld said. ;) But however weird it gets, we do want this to be basically a rock group, in a broad sense: electric guitar, a beat, and at least some songs that really rock.

We have been influenced by classical music. I have a degree in music (voice), which I think makes me a more versatile singer and the music theory doesn’t hurt either. Eric has studied music theory a lot, and has been in several groups (none famous). I was in a critically acclaimed a capella group (Kitka) for 2 years in the 90s. Never been in a rock group, but that’s what I always wanted, so here goes! We’ve doing some open mics together lately.

If somebody joins the band who also writes songs, we’re open to doing some of their material as well as our own. We will also do some covers.

Please listen to my songs at Soundcloud (just go to soundcloud.com and search on “Thea Kelley” — that’s Kelley with an extra “e”), but please realize IT’S *NOT* THAT I ALWAYS WANT TO SING SLOW SENSITIVE SONGS, THAT’S JUST THE KIND I SEEM TO WRITE SO FAR! (Partly due to the fact that I don’t play guitar & my keyboard playing is very basic.) Maybe a collaborator could make my lyrics and ideas rock!

You can also check out Eric’s songs there as well. Look up Eric Kampman.

We’re over 40 and not looking to make a career of this, but we do approach it with a degree of professionalism. We would rehearse together once a week and expect that we’d each work on it during the week as well.

We’d like to get together with musicians who are: creative, flexible, expressive, dependable. Formal training (ability to read music, etc.) is a plus but not necessary. We live in Albany, near El Cerrito Plaza BART. We have a piano & a drum set.

I know this ad is long, but I thought it would help you understand whether we’d work well together. Drop me a note if the above resonates. Thanks! — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: 1

“THE MARRIAGE REF” IS NOW CASTING
Jerry Seinfeld, NBC, the Executive Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show and the producers of “Super Nanny” now bring you…
“The Marriage Ref”:
A comic, reality series where celebrities and a relationship referee help squabbling couples make peace. Created by Seinfeld himself, this is relationship advice… with a comic twist.
“The Marriage Ref” casting team is searching the country for outgoing and opinionated couples in long-term relationships, willing to appear on national television, who have a long standing argument or issue that must be resolved. No problem is too small!
* Is there an object, a person, or a habit (e.g. computer, pet, a friend, the remote control) that is a third wheel in your relationship and causes a problem?
* Does your partner have an annoying obnoxious habit or item that causes fights?
* Does your partner do things like withhold sex after a fight?
Whether you argue about parenting, pets, fashion, money, in-laws, weight, housework, chores, communication, neatness, jealousy, past history, friends, sex… Whatever you argue about, we want to hear from you. Tell us why you absolutely NEED a MARRIAGE REF to weigh in and decide who is RIGHT and who is WRONG.
Couples across America … we want to hear what absolutely makes you nuts when it comes to your partner! Tell us your beef and you might just get the chance to state your case on TV. Wouldn’t it be great to settle the issue once and for all?!
If this sounds like you or someone you know, please contact the Casting Team IMMEDIATELY (BEFORE we arrive in town) at the hotline number: 877.304.4040 and email: marriagerefcasting@shedmediaus.com
Please include your contact info, city you live in, photos, and a paragraph about why you are the perfect couple for this show. Be sure to include a brief explanation about your arguments and tell us why you are RIGHT and your partner is WRONG!
Think you and your spouse would be great on the show? Here’s a video that explains more about the show and who we’re looking for to be part of it:
