I have played bass for over 17 years, have a lot of experience performing and recording and own professional gear. I am fairly new to Chicago and haven’t been able to find the ideal band yet so I figured I’d post what I would like to do. I am capable of playing many diverse styles and am easy to work with. I am really into bands like The Mars Volta, Opeth, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Frank Zappa, Bungle, jazz (in general particularly 60′s or 70′s fusion) and basically anything that brings something new musically to the table. I would like to find vocals, guitar(s), drums, and maybe a keyboard player to jam and write amazing tunes with. 02-11-12 – San Francisco, CA>Reno, NV – We are a drummer (age 30), guitarist (age 27), and violin/mandolin player seeking a vocalist and bassist. As a general description of style, we would probably be in the direction of King Crimson or The Mars Volta.

Though we’re not specifically trying to play that style of music, our tendencies lie in that sort of progressive/experimental genre. Currently, we are practicing once a week on Saturday afternoons. But once things get rolling a bit, we would like to add to that, practicing 2 or possibly 3 times a week.

We’re seeking musicians that are comfortable with improvisation and odd time signatures, as well as being open to experimentation and avante garde concepts.

Though that’s not to say we’re averse to more straight-ahead music. We are also looking for musicians who are willing to contribute creatively to the group. Someone looking to add their own personality to the music.

Bassist – The most important thing we are looking for in a bassist is someone that is comfortable being the center of time. Juan Alderete of The Mars Volta is a good example of this.

He’s able to hold the band together no matter what chaos is going on around him. However, we’re open to a bassist who wants to get more creative if that’s their style.

Perhaps a different example would be Les Claypool, who plays some pretty wild stuff, but is still the center of time for his bands.
Vocalist – We’re mainly looking for a melodic vocalist, but are not opposed to occasional screaming if the moment fits. As far as style goes, we don’t have anything specific in mind.
