[title of show]is a hilarious, fresh, and exciting love letter to musical theater. The musical chronicles the fast-track journey of two friends, plus their two friends, through a tumult of creative self-expression. The show’s music and lyrics are by Jeff Bowen; the book is by Hunter Bell.

THE AUDITION: Please have prepared 32 bars from two contrasting songs that demonstrate your vocal ability and are indicative of your personality. Ideally, one song should have a comedic bent, with the other more dramatic. Pop songs are okay, but contemporary musical theater style numbers are preferred. Nothing pre-1980 is necessary … and nothing from “Rent” or “Wicked,” please – we want to hear your style and see your interpretation. You will also likely be asked to read from the script, and we may have a bit of a chat with you to get a good sense of your own personality.

Performance dates are 8PM on Fridays-Saturdays, April 27 – May 19, 2012, with a 3PM matinee on Sunday, May 13.

THE STORY: What is [title of show] about? Well, it’s about ninety minutes without an intermission. Within those ninety minutes is an original musical based on the lives of four really funny people and a musical they create called [title of show].Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival with a deadline for submissions a mere three weeks away. Throwing caution to the wind, the pair decides to create something new and unique with the help of their performer friends Susan and Heidi and pianist Larry. But what’s it like to write a musical in three weeks while basing it on your life in real time as you’re living it? They’ll tell you: “It f’in’ rocks!” This original musical about “two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical” chronicles its own journey from inception to opening night on Broadway.
