You don’t need to be amazingly talented. I’m not exactly a talent powerhouse myself and I don’t want to frustrate a veteran musician with my ineptness. I have lots of ineptness too. It doesn’t stop me trying and it definitely doesn’t stop me having fun but don’t be surprised when I stare blankly at the dots and squiggles you’ve written on that funny lined paper stuff. I’ve never been taught but I’ve picked up enough on my own to get by and be creative. I’ve even embarrassed myself on stage.
If you are looking for a writing partner with in-depth knowledge of music theory then I’m not the man you are looking for. If you like the sound of having a friend to spend relaxed evenings with dabbling in music…then say hi.
I’ve got nothing against country music but considering I’ve hardly ever heard any I can’t really claim to have intentionally written some. I don’t do rap either. I’m white and British so it just won’t work on a genetic level.
The stuff I write most is meant to be a varying blend of R&B, soul, blues, jazz etc but it usually comes out sounding more alternative, folky or pop-like. Or something. I can’t tell what genre most things are in.
I play most guitar-shaped instruments and mumble lyrics. I use devices to capture sound so I can play it back and embarrass myself. I’m also learning to use those devices to make the sounds slightly more bearable. I can even muster a really bad midi drum track…if you give me three days and a ouija board.
I’m not looking for a stage performer; just someone to chill out with. If you’ve got stage ambition then awesome, you may save me some recruitment later, but in this case I’m just looking for a creative accomplice.
