02-11-12 – San Francisco, CA>Reno, NV – Hi All,
We are a group of two serious musicians in search of a serious dedicated bassist. Here is our background.
Sam
Vocalist and guitarist. I am trained by professional teachers both on vocals and guitar.
I sang throughout elementary school and high school and was part of a singing group that did musical plays. In San Francisco I was a student of vocal instructor Robin Lovejoy in Russian Hill, SF.
I picked up guitar when I was in college and taught myself, through books and websites.
After playing guitar for 5 or 6 years I became a student of Nick Bachetto a music teacher in San Mateo and took private lessons from him on a weekly basis for a couple of years. I still try to learn new things every day.
I have heard everything from jazz, classical, blues, rock, raggae, metal, funk, punk, trance, house, tech, rap, hip hop, dance hall, blue grass and international music. But stuff that I love is ofcourse rock.
To give you a better idea bands that I like inlcude Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Creme, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Green Day, U2, Marley, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, Nirvana, The Doors, System Of A Down, Muse, Alice in Chains, The Police, Porcupine Tree, Tom Petty. Been singing for the last 20 years and been playing guitar for the last 11 years.
I am dedicated and enjoy working towards a goal. The goal is to get recognized as a rock and roll band in San Francisco and play out here and then if we get lucky and people dig our sound then take it to the other level. I believe in quality both from a live playing and recording prospective.
I started off playing power chords 15 years ago, got into classical music, and went to Manhattan School of Music, graduating in ’07 with a BM in classical guitar performance. I mix a lot of styles together when I play, flamenco techniques, and blues, and bluegrass style fingerpicking, harmonies I picked up from classical pieces, and rock and roll riffs. I play nylon most of the time, steel string sometimes, and electric when I’m around one. Electric is my favorite because of all the sounds you can get and the wider range of dynamics. WeEeEEeEeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dahhhnnnn D Daahhh JJh JJJh Dhhn WAaaaaaa!!..
I listen to all kinds of music. I can listen to top 40 radio and find things I like, but it’s not my thing. My favorite guitarists of all-time have to be Hendrix, SRV, probably some other people. Ok, artists I like. Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn. Primus. Nirvana(Incesticide). Stevie Wonder. Ray Charles. Hendrix. Stevie Ray Vaughn. Otis Redding. Bob Dylan. Gov’t Mule. Hank Williams Sr. David Alan Coe. Andres Segovia. Rostropovich. Pantera. Debussy. Uhh.. Steve Miller Band. Ali Farka Toure.
Ravi Shankar. Howling Wolf. The Beach Boys. You get the idea, all kinds of stuff, whatever’s good. I like cheesy stuff too. My goal is to get some people together and play some music, get some energy going, get some grooves happening, really play together and rock. And after that get some gigs at shitty bars and clubs where we get a drink ticket each if we’re lucky.
After that, play some bigger clubs, maybe get a weekly thing going somewhere, have people come out to see us, get a following if you want to call it that, but get heard by other bands and lots of people and who knows maybe a scout or an agent or a manager will be out there and want to talk to us and throw us some dough towards a recording.
If we record I want it sound good, there’s no point in recording in a friend’s studio or somebody’s basement, burning it onto some CD-Rs with paper labels and selling them for $5. Why. But the idea is to play and have some fun and get better and move forward, travel and play, rock and roll.
