Independent short film for set in Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York, and on a ridgeline hike in Putnam County, overlooking the Hudson River Valley. The story starts on Thanksgiving in Alex and Amy’s apartment. Alex’s plans to marry Amy are disrupted by the arrival of Will — a stranger introduced as Amy’s brother. Over two tumultuous days, romance becomes resentment as questions of love, ideology, and commitment are all brought to bear on the lives of these three young New Yorkers. The film highlights both the man-made and natural beauty that influences and informs a generation caught between spiritual and technological progress. The filmʼs aesthetic is informed by honest, verité performances in real locations, and draws on the intense, experiential filmmaking styles of artists like Malick and Cassavetes, while channeling the poignant humor of Woody Allen. Working intimately with close friends and fellow artists dedicated to the art of visual storytelling, director Adam Newport-Berra combines a refined visual sensibility with a keen insight into the dilemmas of his generation.

The cast will feature a range of young Brooklynites and interesting, eccentric surrounding characters. We are casting for supporting roles. I’d like to set something up for spring time, honestly — but I figured I’d start looking now. I want them to be fun, and playful, with a little romance (sort of like an engagement session). We have been working on our props and wardrobe as well — so you would not need to provide any of that. All I need is someone talented to take the photos!
