01-11-12 – San Francisco, CA>Reno, NV – Hello all-
Waiting Room, a 3 piece female band, is looking for a new female drummer.
Here’s a little bit about us:
Waiting Room is a three-piece girl band, coming from the native hills of San Francisco, consisting of natives Lauren Alves, Veronica Bush and Rose Sullivan. An indie folk rock trio that draws from the blues, punk, and jazz; the girls met through local friends, Trainwreck Riders and The Dead Westerns.
Lauren Alves has been playing paradiddles on her Dad’s drum set since she was five years old, and has been playing bass for some 15 plus years. She has also worked as a pit musician, and plays bass, guitar, and vocals in the band. Veronica Bush plays rhythmic banjo, bass, and vocals. Rose Sullivan plays garage rock drums. Both Alves and Bush write songs, making their music very collaborative and heartfelt. Some of their influences include Mazzy Star, Modest Mouse, Neil Young, and Otis Redding.
Both Ronnie and I (Lauren) write songs. We also use different stringed instruments on different songs. Some of our arrangements consist of bass, banjo, and drums and others are guitar, bass, and drums. We like to keep it interesting. We value open communication and constructive criticism. If there is a conflict, we talk about it and resolve it We have a solid 8 song set at the moment and we are adding more songs on a regular basis. We released a 4 song ep in December of 2011, and have been featured on Radio Valencia’s Thursday night show, Baghdad by the Bay.
Here are the particulars we are looking for in a drummer:
We want someone who is in this for the long haul. We are artists wishing to pursue careers in the fine arts, so in other words. . . Commitment, commitment, commitment!!
We are looking for a new friend. We generally hang out with each other and value the intimacy of working with someone who is down to earth and true to themselves…
We want someone who understands that being in a band is hard work and there are a lot of times when we have to give a little and compromise. While we may not always agree, we are never hostile.
We are a very cooperative band. We write songs democratically and value each members input. You will be able to play what you want and how you want. Although I am a symphonic percussionist, I play guitar and electric bass in the band and I would hope to work with a drummer who can hold her own.
You need to know how to play with brushes. We have a few songs with brushes and while you don’t have to be a jazz master, you need to be able to play with them.
You need to commit to practicing once a week, twice when we are writing new material. We typically play our set thru before each show and that is considered our practice for the week. We practice in Daly City, so you will be responsible for getting to and from our spot. It’s right on the border between SF and Daly City near Geneva and you can take the 14 mission muni line to get there.
While I do have a drum set at our practice spot, you should have your own set.
We play between 3-6 shows a month in the bay area. You will need to be able to play weeknight shows fairly often and be able to haul your own equipment when needed. We generally don’t turn down shows unless there is some kind of emergency or work conflict. We are fine if you want to take a back seat in regards to booking shows, but if you want to book shows, great!
We have 1 more show in the end of January, 2 in February, and 1 in March booked so far. You need to be able to play these shows, so you have to learn fast.
It’s not necessary to have a car, but you will be responsible for getting to and from our gigs and our practice space.
You will need to be able to tour. We are already setting up a summer 1-2 week west coast tour in the end of august.
You will need to help out financially. We have been shopping around for a van, so you will need to be able to pay for its upkeep, as well as studio time, cd/vinyl/merch manufacturing.
We drink and are 420 friendly but if you tend to go overboard with that stuff then this is not the band for you.

If this sounds like something you are interested in, please contact me. Please leave a phone number in your reply and if you have links to your music send those too so I can get a feel for your style.

10-22-11 – Los Angeles, CA>San Diego, CA – A ROOM WITH A VIEW
From the beloved novel that inspired the Academy Award-winning film comes an enchanting new musical. Amid the golden sunlight and violet-covered hills of Tuscany, sheltered English girl Lucy Honeychurch meets freethinking George Emerson. For the first time, she glimpses a world of longing and passion she never imagined. Back in her corseted Edwardian life, Lucy must decide whether to yield to convention or give up everything she has ever known. Comic, romantic, satirical and real, A Room with a View blends a gorgeous score with this timeless story that gives a new voice to these unforgettable characters. — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: Live Event

09-22-11 – Los Angeles, CA>San Diego, CA – Simply put, we need a singer. We have regular gigs at the Kibitz Room and at Suzy’s (Hermosa Beach) and need a new singer to join us. We’re playing covers of mostly 70s, 80s, 90s rock and need someone who can get those Steve Perry and Mike Reno high notes as well as those soulful Paul Rogers tones.
About us: We’ve been playing since February and have already gotten recurring gigs at the two above-mentioned venues. We have drums, bass, and guitar (all male). We all have regular jobs and don’t treat the band like it’s a full-time job. We don’t see the band as a gateway to stardom. We’re three guys who love playing good tunes at bars and we have a great time doing it…and we’re pretty good at it. We’re not playing to supplement our income, we’re not playing because we’re holding onto any kind of rock star dream. In the interest of full disclosure, our singer left because she had anxiety issues and wasn’t every comfortable with the music or performing live…not because of any weird personality conflicts or drama. We’re a very low-drama group. We’re playing ZZ Top, Journey, Bad Company, Loverboy, Stone Temple Pilots, Weezer, Black Crowes, Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Cheap Trick, etc.
About you: You love to sing. You love to perform. Maybe you’ve been in a band, maybe you haven’t. Bonus points if you can play keyboard. You don’t “need” the band to supplement your income or won’t become concerned about gigging more than a few times a month because you need the money. You’re personable, funny, and easy to get along with. — Submit Yourself To This Role Now: 1
