11-04-11 – Honolulu, HI – We are looking for a drummer. I’m an MA student majoring in music at UHM, so I’m pretty picky. You must know at least basic theory and some jazz theory. If you have experience with Latin rhythms that is a plus as well. Good timing and must be able to play in the pocket with ease. Also, should be able to pick up new chord progressions on the fly.
Equally important are group dynamics, so we are looking for laid back people with their egos in check. We are pretty mellow, so you be too. Also, you must be able to make rehearsals and gigs as much as possible. We want to rehearse twice a week.
Our style is super smooth and mixes jazz, reggae and other elements. We need talent who can contribute to the overall sound and add their own musical experience and style to the mix. We aren’t showy, but if you have the energy to get a crowd going this is a plus!! We are hoping to play mostly original songs and if we do a cover, we will make it our own and put a new twist on it. If you have composition skills, we’d love to have you worrk with us on writing a few new songs. Rehearsals will be starting in the next few weeks followed by gigs, recording etc…
Oh, and finally you must have your own equipment and transportation to get to gigs/rehearsals.
