09-13-11 – Seattle, WA>Portland, OR – I am an experienced, 40+ years, jazz/fusion drummer in search of an intermediate jazz pianist for a new trio or quartet for local gigging and musical exploration. Miles, Monk, T. Williams, Shorter, Hancock, Evans…you get the idea. As for me, I am an explosive ‘lead drummer’ and the sound will be greatly influenced by my open-ended jazz drumming interpretations.
Rehearsals will be once per week on the eastside at different locations [Bellevue to Renton area]. You must have all the usuals: transportation, day-job and a mobile key set-up. If you are wound tight [bad for jazz and general health!], have alcohol-drug issues and think you will never be good enough [control issues], this is not the right place for you. Age-gender does not matter, maturity does!
I have decades of band leadership/business/communication experience, a lacking factor in most musical situations. Leadership is the key to success in any group situation bringing balance and harmony to the outcome. Most musician won’t start a band on their own, join a band, and start leading from the outside. The infrastructure and specificity of the band won’t be compromised. On the counter-side, leadership, at least in jazz, does mean that you encourage your fellow band-mates to grow and explore in their playing and show respect to their personal needs as actual people.
Since drums and piano can play as a duet, this is will be my launching pad ad prior to recruiting a bassist [and possibly a horn player].
